ABOUT
At the heart of Agus’ work are themes of nostalgia, cultural relations and traces of places once visited. Through mark-making, they moments from their life, from rediscovering forgotten memories to the present. The abstracted black-and-white aesthetic derived from relief printing, evokes a sense of anonymity, resembling a distorted memory—one that only the artist has full access to, preserving the intimate, fragmented nature of personal experience.
Their works often experience of navigating between two cultures, balancing dual identities, and envisioning alternate versions of myself. These works reflect a personal journey of reconnecting with my heritage and culture, aiming to reconcile and heal the aspects of my identity I have yet to appreciate.
